State Finalists Honors
The state finalists are honored in April/May at a Teacher of the Year Gala sponsored by AT&T. State Finalists also receive the following:
- Total one time stipend of $5000
- Engraved plaques
- Opportunities to present and facilitate at local and state meetings/programs
- Financial support to attend one national professional conference
- The opportunity to attend a seminar at NCCAT, The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching
- Opportunities to have direct communication between state education leaders and policymakers
- Opportunities to promote the North Carolina Teacher of the Year network
- Support from Public Schools of North Carolina in sponsoring the Annual North Carolina Teacher of the Year Symposium/Celebration
- Opportunities to enhance the profession of teaching with substitute, travel and subsistence provided by the state
State Winner Honors
- A one time stipend of $7500
- A personal automobile
- A Technology Package from the SMARTer Kids Foundation
- Ceremonies with the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, and other government officials
- Appointment to the North Carolina State Board of Education for two years
- Appointment to education advisory committees and boards
- Appearances before and participation in statewide professional meetings
- The opportunity to be a full-time ambassador for education for one year while serving the state as a Teacher on Loan
- Nomination as North Carolina's candidate in the National Teacher of the Year Program
- International Space Camp
- Participation in Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP) and the Institute of Educational Leadership Conference
- Attendance at the National Teacher of the Year Conference
- International trip provided by the North Carolina Center for International Understanding
