RESEARCH AND EVALUATION

The Research and Evaluation (R&E) Section is part of Agency Operations and Information Management.

MISSION :: To provide timely and accurate information needed by state decision makers (State Board of Education, Department of Public Instruction, local education agencies and other state agencies) to maintain and improve North Carolina schools.

In performing its mission, R&E:

• Coordinates work with external consultants and collaborative teams on legislatively mandated evaluations.
• Coordinates work on evaluations in partnership with DPI program areas.
• Facilitates evidence based decision-making by DPI, SBE, LEAs, and other state agencies by providing internal DPI data in useful forms and locating applicable external research.
• Coordinates data requests involving confidential data and/or multiple sections of the agency

R&E is also directly responsible for conducting annual dropout and discipline data collections and producing the associated annual reports.
