State statutes 115C-12(21) and (27) require that North Carolina schools report annual numbers of:

  • Acts of crime and violence
  • Suspensions and expulsions
  • Enrollments in alternative learning programs

Discipline Data Collection Process
The Uniform System of Disciplinary Data Collection (USDDC) is the primary method used by DPI to collect discipline data from all North Carolina public schools.


17 Reportable Offenses
Specification of the seventeen reportable offenses that must be reported, along with a detailed description of the offense.


Annual Reports
The Research & Evaluation Section coordinates this data collection and produces the annual reports.
