STATE PLAN

North Carolina is using the Race to the Top grant to implement our State's ambitious plan to increase student achievement, close achievement gaps and continue to increase graduation rates. The plan is built on the following two key ideas:

1. Every student should be held to high academic expectations, the achievement of which will enable him or her to graduate ready for life in the global economy.
2. In order for every student to have an opportunity to grow academically and achieve, every student must have an effective teacher and every school must have an effective principal.

Accordingly, all of the workstreams supported by the RttT grant, as represented in the READY project map below, focus on ensuring that every child has an excellent teacher and that every school has an excellent principal.
