We are pleased to announce the process for completing the 2008-2009 Safe and Drug-Free Schools grant application. As in the past, the Federal Safe and Drug-Free School and Communities Act, Title IV program continues to promote implementing prevention and intervention strategies in order to meet the objectives for establishing safe and drug-free schools. Federal funds for 2008-2009 will be allocated to Local Education Agencies (LEA’s) based on the conditions specified in the No Child Left Behind Act, P.L. 107-110. As always, program coordinators are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines of the Federal Safe and Drug-Free School and Communities Act of 1994. This year, three regional meetings will be held to review the overall expectations outlined in the 2008 -2009 application. Details of the regional meetings are forthcoming.
The 2008-2009 Safe and Drug-Free School and Communities application and procedures manual will be placed on the Department of Public Instruction, School Safety and Climate Section’s website.
