First
in America
In his 1999 State of the State Address, Governor Jim Hunt
challenged North Carolinians to make our schools First in
America by 2010. The Governor directed the North Carolina
Education Research Council to design and issue an annual
Progress Report and Report Card on the state's progress
toward the First in America goals.

Carolina School Boards Association
(NCSBA)
The mission of the NCSBA, as an advocate for public school
education, is to provide leadership and services that enable
local boards of education to govern effectively.

Carolina Association of School Administrators
(NCASA)
NCASA is the only organization in NC for all central office
administrators, principals, assistant principals, and higher
education professionals. There are approximately 5,400
members, including 99 public school units, individual,
student, retired and business members.

Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE)
NCAE's mission is to advocate
for members and students, to enhance the education profession, and to
advance public education.
National
Association of State Boards of Education
(NASBE)
The
NASBE is a non-profit association that represents state and
territorial boards of education. Its principal objectives
include strengthening leadership in education policymaking;
promoting excellence in the education of all students;
advocating equality of access to educational opportunity:
and assuring continued citizen support for public
education.
National
School Boards Association
(NSBA)
The mission of the National School Boards Association,
working with and through all of its Federation Members, is
to foster excellence and equity in public education through
school board leadership.
