Kathy has a BA in French from UNC-Wilmington.

She first worked as a middle school teacher in Foreign Language for New Hanover County. She spent two years in the Peace Corps as a Rural Medical Assistant in Mauritania, NW Africa. Upon returning, she completed graduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health. She has a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Rural, Cross Cultural Health. Subsequently, she was a lecturer in the HPER Department of UNC-Wilmington. She returned to Africa, to the Central African Republic to work as a Peace Corps Health Technical Trainer. Her next job was as the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coordinator for Onslow County Schools. From that position, she moved to Health & Safety Supervisor for Onslow County Schools. She currently works as a Health Education consultant and trainer.
