NCDPI Video Conferencing CenterAs one of the more than 150 sites on the North Carolina Information Highway, the DPI Video Conferencing Center provides facilities for interactive video and audio events over the statewide fiberoptics network. The Center, located in room 504, provides table seating for 22, but the room capacity can be increased to approximately 60. There is no charge for agency (DPI) personnel to use the facility if they run the cameras. Non-profit and other governmental agencies are charged $75 for the first hour of room use and $25 for each subsequent hour, providing a member of their staff runs the cameras. Contact Gerri Batchelor (919-807-3449) for rates for night, weekend or holiday events. Video conferences can be scheduled in point-to-point mode (2 sites), or voice-activated mode (3 to 12 sites). The universities of the NC system may be added to a session via their NC REN microwave sites. The procedure for using the site requires that the event coordinator contact Gerri Batchelor, (919)-807-3449, gbatchel@dpi.state.nc.us) to tentatively reserve the desired date and time. The coordinator confirms date and time with all other sites, and then sends the necessary information to Batchelor (or the originating site facilitator) to schedule the event with Bell South. Training on cameras can be arranged at the same time. Written materials are available to assist in planning the event and developing graphics. The Video Conferencing Center also provides facilities for ISDN desk top video conferencing or interconnection into the NC Distance Learning by Satellite Network, including StarNet sites. For more information, or to schedule time, contact Gerri Batchelor. NCIH
