New Student Support Site Launched
Student Support Services, also known as "student services" or "pupil services," includes prevention, intervention, transition and follow-up services for students and families. This new site is home to information and resources for school social workers, counselors and psychologists and other student support staff. Exciting Educational Resource for Parents Available
The new Parent, Family and Community site represents one of the many state-wide initiatives to educate, inform and advocate for stronger schools through involvement. Now Recruiting Teacher on Loan
The Center for Recruitment and Retention within the Division of Human Resource Management is seeking a teacher on loan to provide assistance and leadership in working with initiatives that promote teacher recruitment, teacher retention and teacher advancement. The teacher on loan will be based at the Department of Public Instruction and will be required to travel throughout the state as needed. EC Report Focuses on Disproportionality
Compiled by the Exceptional Children Division, the Disproportionality Report was created for LEA administrators and EC Coordinators and examines the status of racial/ethnic groups of children receiving special education services based on their representation in the general school population. Tuition for Exceptional Children Training Available
Limited spring tuition awards are available for special education teachers working toward meeting provisional license requirements. Under this tuition program, employed bachelor level special education teachers on a provisional license may receive the actual cost of tuition for one approved spring course up to $140 per semester hour with a final grade of a "B" or higher. Schools are instrumental in keeping their communities healthy by educating students and parents about preventative actions. Extended Content Standard Presentation Online
This resource was developed for school staff to illustrate how to effectively use the extended content standards and how they may assist the process of developing goals, activities and materials for Exceptional Children programs. Middle Grades Science Resources Added
Four new resources for middle grades science educators are now online. These extensions to the support documents include transparencies, "DNA Percent" decoder, "Middle Grades Science Support Document Resource Pages" and "Classroom Management Strategies for the Middle Grades Science Teacher." A Vision for Literacy in North Carolina (NEW)
Focused on 21st Century Learning Skills and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, this booklet was created to introduce the concepts and guiding principals of "A K-12 Vision for Literacy." The booklet also defines and depicts an appropriate literacy scaffold with the goal of preparing students to be contributing members of society who are self-directed, life-long learners, collaborative workers and complex thinkers.
