The Appalachian Learning Alliance
The Appalachian Learning Alliance is a partnership between Appalachian State University and regional community colleges in western North Carolina. The Alliance is specifically designed to meet identified baccalaureate and graduate degree needs by providing degree-completion programs on the community college campuses.
Western 2Step Program
A cooperative agreement aligning course requirements at Western Carolina University and all 58 community colleges across North Carolina, the 2Step shows you exactly what community college courses fit into every one of Western's undergraduate majors and what courses you must take at the university to earn a bachelor's degree.
Wells Fargo Partnership East is an East Carolina University College of Education degree completion partnership with North Carolina community colleges. Students graduate with a four-year degree in elementary education, special education-general curriculum, or middle grades education from East Carolina University by completing the first two years of the program at any one of our partnering community colleges followed by taking ECU courses online and through face-to-face instruction in the evenings at one of the four consortia hub sites or by completing the ECU courses totally online through the virtual consortium. This degree completion partnership is designed specifically for students that transition from a North Carolina community college.
Waston School of Education
The Waston School of Education has collaborative efforts with community colleges in southeastern NC. The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Extension Program provides courses and degree programs to persons with an associate degree or equivalent who wish to complete a four-year degree.
Teacher Preparation Programs
NC RISE (North Carolina Restructuring Initiative in Special Education)
NC RISE provides support for the development of online training modules that assist non-licensed and out-of-field teachers in becoming licensed and qualified to teach special needs students.
NC TEACH (NC Teachers of Excellence for All Children) - Discontinued
NC TEACH is a statewide teacher licensure program administered by the University of North Carolina, in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. NC TEACH recruits, prepares, and supports mid-career professionals as they begin a teaching career in North Carolina's public schools.
NC Model Teacher Education Consortium (NCMTEC) - Discontinued
NCMTEC is a collaborative effort of a select number of school systems, colleges and universities, community colleges and the Public Schools of North Carolina, which provides affordable, accessible, high-quality education and training to aspiring and practicing educators in participating school systems in eastern North Carolina.
